Voyager's Case Studies

Cloud Amber has a great deal of case studies to draw upon to highlight distinctive and unique features of our product and appproach. Here are a few to begin with.

South Yorkshire Intelligent Transport System Project

Travel South YorkshireWorking as part of the innovative SyITS project, the public facing channels allow members of the public access a multimodal travel portal which is accessible to the greatest number of people through the widest possible number of dissemination portals including Web, WAP, Smart Phone, PDA & Mobile phones, Kiosks, Broadcast Screens, DiTV. Users can sign up for SMS and email alerts on their route to work and kept up to date with the latest goings on in the travel network.

The system follows Web 2 principals which does not provide what is merely a static one way information output, but a dynamic 2 way interactive portal which allows members of the public to report incidents, faults etc either via web or DigiTV to all elements of UTMC information in the Yorkshire area.

The architecture in syITS brings together the existing Sheffield Common Database, ACIS RTPI system, National Rail, BBC TPEG, Met Office Weather and other inputs in to a combined region wide travel portal for information relating to buses, trains, trams and cars. The site is the most comprehensive travel portal in the UK.

The South Yorkshire syITS project again included many ground breaking features. This project perhaps illustrated more than most that a black and white specification cannot encapsulate everything that a user / Client actually want. Indeed many requirements cannot be identified until there is actually something in use by the users. To this end the syITS project delivered its original requirements but - in partnership with the Client and at no additional cost - we have further developed the system to include a wide range of improvements outside of the scope of the original contract to ensure that what the users and Client WANTS as opposed to is WRITTEN in the contract is delivered. This involved us in several iterations of the software with user forums for review/comment to identify new features that would be of use to the end user. We do not put a cap on this type of development as the crucial project measure is not merely profit or the contract specification but customer delight in the end product and Cloud Amber pride in having created a product which knocks the socks of anything currently out there.

Cloud Amber (at that time only 2 people strong was selected for this £1/2M contract ahead of such Goliaths as ACIS, Mott MacDonald, Civica and Siemens for precisely the fact that we wanted it to be the best and would work hand in hand with the customer to ensure this outcome without constantly going back to the contract to try to squeeze another variation order out of them.
